Agora is an affordable residential treatment program combating the effects of alcoholism and addiction with focus on substance abuse relapse prevention. We are distanced from the pressures of a major city atmosphere, located in Gainesville, Ga. on Lake Lanier and close to the North Georgia Mountains.
Agora is for adult men between the ages of 18 to 65. Agora began to accept residents in April of 2000. We offer affordable substance abuse treatment. The residents are screened to determine if there may be a co-existing mental health disorder and if they are appropriate for our level of care. Agora treats men who are motivated to recover from addictive disorders. We are a 12 to 24 month program that addresses behaviors associated with chemical dependency.
The program is a highly structured sober living community that has a resident house manager in each home to report rules infractions to staff. All residents are assigned chores, cooking duties and area tidiness responsibilities. The program is a working, 12 step based community. We have a weekly curriculum that addresses life skills development, addiction education, and process groups.
A key component of Agora program is promoting active lifestyles for our men as a healthy alternative to a life of chemical dependency. Agora fitness curriculum includes voluntary participation in organized 5K’s, 10K’s, bike rides, triathlons, snowboarding, kayaking and hikes on the Appalachian Trail among many other activities. We offer a complete sober lifestyle to the client.
